Orleans County, NY – The wine trail expansion, signed into law on October 1st by Governor Cuomo, allows existing wineries in Orleans an Monroe counties to officially join the Niagara Wine Trail. This brings the total number of member wineries to the Niagara Wine Trail now to nineteen.
This newest edition to the wine trail is Lake Ontario Winery & Vineyards, located off of the newly established “Niagara Wine Trail Ridge” route in Hilton, NY, in Monroe County. Two winery members are now located to the east, outside of Niagara County, which is convenient for visitors traveling the wine trail from Rochester and further east.
Lake Ontario Winery, owned and operated by the Bower family, opened back in 2002, but their cider and grape juice business has been around since 1962. The winery produces and bottles their own wine, which is grown on 55 acres of vines. Varieties grown in the vineyard range from vinifera, to hybrid and native grapes.
The winery also features a bistro and dinner service that is open seven days a week. The European-style atmosphere bistro features handmade, gourmet dishes that compliment their wines. Most of the bistro dishes ingredients are locally sourced from NYS farms, with the menu and specials changing with the seasons.
Lake Ontario Winery & Vineyards’ hours are Sunday thru Tuesday 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Wednesday thru Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The new member will be participating in the rest of the wine trail’s upcoming events, including this weekend’s Hallowine event, Share the Bounty (Nov. 8-11), and Holiday Happening (Dec. 6-8 and 13-15).
