Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — SYRACUSE — June 15, 2014:

The Appleton-based Winery at Marjim Manor received a high honor for one of its wines entered in the New York State Fair’s annual commercial wine competition.

Statewide, awards went to 330 commercial wines and spirits Friday after judging last week at the state fairgrounds.

Marjim Manor’s Katapalooza was judged to be the best fruit wine.

The winery also received a silver medal for another fruit wine.

Seven other wineries on the Niagara Wine Trail received silver or bronze medals in the competition as well: A Gust of Sun and Midnight Run Wine Cellars in Ransomville, Black Willow and Schulze Vineyards and Winery in Burt, Honeymoon Trail in Lockport, Vizcarra Vineyards in Gasport, and Black Bird Cider Works in Barker.

Winners will be honored at a ceremony during the state fair, where “best” wines are to be entered in the Taste NY Wine and Cheese Pairing Competition.
