Monroe County, NY – The Monroe County legislature declared April 2016 to be “Wine Industry Month” at their monthly meeting last night. Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, along with Legislature President Anthony Daniele, Tina Brown from Legislature District 1, and Matthew Terp from Legislature District 8 signed the certificate of recognition.
Two Niagara Wine Trail members are located in Monroe County, Lake Ontario Winery (in Hilton and Webster), and A Gust of Sun Winery (in Spencerport). The wineries attract guests from neighboring counties, visitors from other states and Canada tourists. The legislature recognized the wine industry helps to showcase the county’s beauty, promote numerous quality of life activities, and bolster the local economy. “Every month is great for New York wines, every day is a good day to drink and celebrate the craft beverages produced in our state,” said executive director, Catherine Banks.
In a 2012 study, the wine industry was shown to be responsible for $4.8 million of economic value in New York State. New York is the United States’ third largest grape and wine producer, with 1,631 family-owned vineyards that generate 25,000 jobs and is visited by 5.29 million people.
